Our Move to South Dakota

Why?

Moving here didn’t make sense. My husband had an established business. My son was starting school soon. We had no debt. We were grounded and had deeper relationships after living in Colorado for ten years. We loved the mountains and the weather.

But...we weren’t living the life that we were called to. We were comfortable. Things were easy. We weren’t pursuing our passions. Our environment and people in our lives weren’t pushing us in our faith. We were living out of selfishness and intrinsically. There was a restlessness in our souls. God had placed a deep whisper in our hearts that He had more for us.

So...we took the leap. Not lightly, but in full trust that He knew better than we did. After almost a year of praying, contemplating, discussing with each other, friends, and mentors…we pulled the trigger and actually moved. We had looked with a realtor at a few different places around the country, but just felt at peace with this one farm in SD. It was near family, close to our alma mater, and in a community where my husband could live out his passion of flipping houses and we could be a part of revitalizing a piece of the city. My dream could come true of living on a farm and owning horses once again. Our kids could run free outside and help take care of numerous pets that they have been wanting. We have the challenging, but beautiful task of renovating a 120-year-old farmhouse. We left what we knew so that we could have the opportunity for God to mold and shape us completely how He saw fit. It was all in His timeline, in a new environment, and threaded with numerous overwhelming obstacles (a new baby for one).
And the truth is, we are still in the thick of it. But God has stretched us in ways we didn’t know we could be and shown us that we are stronger than we thought. That with Him, we can tackle anything. I have learned to trust more, laugh often (so many things are out of our control), and give lots of grace (to myself and others). It’s a crazy journey, but I am so incredibly glad that I chose to dive in rather than take the safe route.
We sacrificed so much by leaving CO, but know that God’s plans are better than ours and He has already revealed so many answers to the desires of our hearts here, we know that we did the right thing…even on the hard days.
